Gamers, GPU masa nggak kenal, sih? Graphics processing unit adalah perangkat keras yang ada di semua komputer untuk menjalankan berbagai aplikasi. Perangkat yang ditemukan di setiap komputer entah on-board atau pun terpisah sangat dibutuhkan. Bagian vital ini membuat komputer Anda berjalan dengan sempurna. Buktinya, bila driver untuk GPU Anda tidak ditemukan, komputer akan berjalan dengan sangat lambat dengan performa grafis yang buruk.
GPU, biasa dikatakan juga VGA Card alias Video Graphics Array adalah perangkat yang menjalankan rendering yang diperintahkan oleh aplikasi. GPU bisa dilihat kualitasnya dari seberapa besar memory yang bisa digunakan, misalnya: 1GB. GPU terbagi menjadi dua jenis menurut letaknya:
- On-board: GPU jenis ini terpasang (menjadi satu) dengan motherboard, menjadikan GPU jenis ini tidak dapat ditambah maupun dikurang kalau tidak ada slot tambahan untuk GPU. Biasanya, GPU seperti ini berada pada netbook dan laptop kelas bawah.
- Terpisah: Anda dapat menemukannya di luar motherboard, sehingga dapat diganti seperlunya. GPU terpisah biasanya memiliki kemampuan yang jauh lebih besar dibandingkan dengan GPU on-board.
Fakta mengenai GPU yang saya temui:
- Kebanyakan GPU pada komputer standar adalah 1GB
- Kisaran harga GPU terpisah adalah Rp. 150.000,- hingga > Rp. 500.000,-.
- Merek-merek yang menjual GPU antara lain adalah: nVidia dan ATI.
